The new Architectural Woodwork Standards (AWS) are different from the old 8th edition Quality Standards Illustrated (QSI), and as such there are a number of items that those who are familiar with the AWI QSI will need to watch for (For example; The AWS includes great detail regarding acceptable materials and processes. Therefore, there is no need to list those details, unless something additional is desired. This saves the specifier valuable time and gives the woodworker clear specs that are consistent with the new Architectural Woodwork Standards.)
Our goal at this session is to give you an overview of the new Architectural Woodwork Standards and just some of the items you will need to watch for that are different from the QSI. This will not be an exhaustive study, but should help you to become familiar with the types of things that may have changed. You will need to do your own comparatives on specific items that pertain to the project you are concerned with to avoid applying outdated information to current requirements.
This overview of the new AWS is being presented by Woody Vaughn of Vaughn Woodwork Consultants.

Plant Tours provide a great opportunity to explore the manufacturing of products in our industry. This sharing of knowledge is vital to the well being and growth of our industry as well as industries in common. Please join us this winter to tour Keiver Willard's facility. Their millwork operation produces more than 55,000 lineal feet of mouldings, and 35,000 board feet of ripped & planed lumber daily, with thousands of moulding profiles, as well as individually designed custom ground knives for specific requirements.
